Esquel is located at the valley between Esquel and Nahuel Pan Hills, 300 km south of Bariloche. It was created in 1907 mainly by immigrants from different countries, especially from Wales, Italy, Chile, Syria and Libano becoming the main supply for welsh colonies, farms and the aboriginal colony around. In 1937 Los Alerces National Park was created protecting the only thousand-year-old forest in Argentina what made the tourism grow in the area. In 1945 the first train arrived to Esquel and its still works once a week between El Maitén and Esquel, what remains the main transport for the people living there and a great attraction for tourists.
13 km. away from the city is the Ski Resort “La Hoya” with snow from June to November. Conventional Tours: Los Alerces National Park. La Hoya Ski Resort. Futaleufú Damn. Rosario Lake (aboriginal colony) “La Trochita” Steam Train (Consider an antique that still works with wooden cars from the 1900.) In high season it runs from Esquel to Nahuel Pan everyday and once a week to el Maitén. The rest of the year only goes to El Maitén once a week.
