In pre-Colombian epochs before the discovery and the conquest, the mountainous outskirts of Cafayate were populated by native diaguitas settlements. Approximately in the year 1480 the incas of peru arrived in a first phase, and then in 1535 the Spanish conquerors arrived, being the local aborigines who more fought and they resisted. Their testimonies still are appreciated in localities as Yacochuga, Chusca, San Isidro, El Divisadero, and especially in Tolombón; where remainders of ceramics, walls or pircas of stone, railway platforms of cultivation and even rock paintings were founded. This locality, located in the center of the Calchaquíes Valleys of the province of Salta, is recognized internationally by the quality of its wines, the affability of its climate, the cordiality of its people and the beauty of its landscapes. Without doubt the charm of this beautiful and important town inside the calchaquí circuit enjoys itself fully traveling through its streets, admiring the incomparable architecture of its Cathedral, the woodland and flowery Main Plaza, the picturesque Old Mill of stone, and the full museums of history and tradition.
