Information about Susques

At only 200 kilometers northwest of San Salvador of Jujuy is found the small and old town of Susques. Surrounded by the rustic and beautiful landscape of La Puna, paradoxical, this locality is one of the humblest of the entire region. In spite of all, the few inhabitants attend warmly to the visitors. It is possible to hire a local to travel through the outskirts. It is worth while to be stopped to observe to the knitting machines (many work in the door of its houses) and to buy some of its products. The construction that more is emphasized is the church. Tower of the Church of Susques is one of the oldest catholic temples of the Argentine northwest and, besides continuing the architectural line of the churches of the Northwest, is emphasized for its gaudy ceiling of straw. Under the dedication of the Virgin of Bethlehem, patroness of Susques, the temple, of a single ship, has a tower of three decorated bodies in the upper part.
