Information about El Calafate

Calafate is the starting point to all the attractions in the area. This town is like an oasis in the middle of the desert, which owes its name to a bush of small leaves that have a purple and very sweet fruit, a village that counts on willows and poplars. It has an important offering of lodging among the one that is found the “Hostel del Glaciar” that also organizes several excursions.

Visit to “Los Glaciares” National Park
Inside this park there extends the Patagonian Continental Ice from where arises great quantity of glaciers that are intertwined with forests, lakes, summits and rivers. After traveling for a sinuous road it is possible to observe from a window the greatest attraction: the Glaciar Perito Moreno, which itself alone justifies so long trip to this extreme of the Patagonia.

Inside the park, in the embarcadero of Bajo de la Sombra, pneumatic closed rowboats leave to cross the Rico arm to the coast opposed in order to undertake a minitrekking, with crampones used under the feet, on the Glaciar Perito Moreno. The same embarcadero has boats that cross to the Nautical Safari, a navigation of an hour by the immediacies of the glacier.

Leaving from the Puerto Banderas embarkations leave to arrive to the glacial and then to Bay Onelli, where starts a walk through the forest to the gap of the same name.
